We are seeking a creative, dynamic, committed professional to join our team: TEAM MANAGER, LABOUR RELATIONS Location: Administration Building, 133 Greenbank Road Nepean, ON Position Status: 1.0 Regular, Full-time Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week Affiliation: Union-Exempt Salary range: $137,277 to $160,233 (Level 10) Job Summary Under the general direction of the General Manager and Senior Legal Counsel, LR, the Labour Relations Team Manager is responsible for managing the day to day relationships with, and acts as the key liaison between, the District and Federation representatives. The Team Manager is responsible for all collective bargaining negotiations, grievances, and arbitrations, and acts as a central advisor to supervisors, managers and principals on the application and interpretation of collective agreements . Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Acting as the main liaison and primary contact with Federation leadership on day to day issues arising in school and central departments; Providing advice and guidance to principals, vice principals and managers about their obligations toward employees, on issues related to performance management, discipline and discharge as well as interpreting and applying the relevant collective agreement; Managing the grievance and arbitration process, including representing the District at arbitrations and the Ontario Labour Relations Board; instructing external legal counsel, and providing recommendations to Senior Staff on the risks and with respect to potential settlements; Keeping abreast of provincial labour relations matters and developments in the education sector and provides advice and updates to Senior Staff; Serving as Lead Negotiator and primary spokesperson at the bargaining tables, including leading the development of the Employers bargaining positions and the development of bargaining briefs. Qualifications Post-secondary degree in Labour Relations, Industrial Relations, or related field and 5 years of labour relations experience, including experience in the collective bargaining process and interpreting collective agreements. Experience working in a large multi-union organization is preferred. Member of the Law Society of Ontario is considered an asset. Thorough knowledge of collective bargaining processes and grievance and arbitration process management; Knowledge of labour relations principles and employment legislation; Managerial skills, including hiring, supervising and evaluating staff; demonstrates leadership for training, coaching and motivating teams, and ensuring timelines are met. Interpersonal and Communication Skills (oral and written) required for relationship building, providing consultation and expert advice on labour and employee relations matters; and has the ability to persuade and gain consensus on issues, or encourage positive results; Public speaking skills for making presentations in large and small group settings; Written communications for drafting reports, collective agreements, and other complex or sensitive documents; Uses tact, discretion and discretion in all interactions with board personnel; High degree confidentiality required due to the nature of the position. Organizational skills and time management techniques for organizing work, and juggling multiple schedules and conflicting priorities and deadlines; High degree of judgement used for decision-making, and resolving problems; Ability to work under pressure to adhere to strict deadlines; Proficiency in computer technology, including word processing, databases and spreadsheets in order to effectively accomplish work.
