Our expectations

Reporting to the Senior director, Strategy & Optimization, the director, Strategy & Optimization will have the primary mandate to lead the optimization projects and continuous improvement program for the Distribution, Transport, Demand Planning and inventory management, within RONA’s nationwide distribution network.

As a member of the Supply Chain management group, the director will be a strong contributor of the definition and execution of the strategic priorities under its area of expertise.

Collaborating with a group of internal stakeholders, the director is responsible of the identification, planning and execution of different optimization projects and continuous improvement initiatives, in order to contribute and elevate the level of expertise, productivity, efficiency, service level and overall competitiveness of our Supply Chain.

The position is based primarily at the Boucherville head office, but the person will be required to travel periodically, to Ontario and Alberta.

Your role

Responble for the governance and execution of the Supply Chain strategic plan & priorities; Scale For Growth, Simplify Operations, Productivity & Trusted service Level. (60%)

  • Lead the execution and oversee strategic projects, and tactical/optimization projects and continuous improvement initiatives within Distribution, Transportation, Demand Planning and Inventory Management areas.
  • Responsible for managing project portfolio governance, from planning to deployment and stabilization of the program.
  • Establish and ensure execution of a comprehensive project management framework, in order to capture the business requirements, evaluate effort and benefits, identify gaps, identify and unlock risks and opportunities, support trouble shooting and resolution escalation, articulate comprehensive status updates, at different hierarchy level in the organization, drive accountability of each teams and overall success of the program.
  • Support change management activities across all projects, in order to accelerate, maximize adherence and ensure successful implementation.
  • Influence and collaborate with multiple key internal stakeholders by establishing and maintaining active relationships with leaders in the areas of end-to-end Supply Chain Planning, Merchandising, Store Operations, Pro and Dealers at a regional and national level.
  • Work on issues of varying complexities that require a good understanding of organizational goals and business strategies to analyze situations.
  • Support communication, escalation and change-management activities for all projects.

Contribute to the identification and prioritization of the strategic, tactical/optimization and continuous improvement initiatives. (25%)

  • Accountable for the project pipeline health, by actively participating to the identification, analysis and prioritization of projects, along with the Operations leadership team of the Distribution, Transportation, Demand Planning and Inventory Management departments.
  • Responsible to elaborate, in collaboration with operational teams, the financial business cases, including cost, benefits, in order to secure the budget and launch the execution phase.

Elevate Supply Chain expertise within the organization (15%)

  • Providing leadership, support, guidance and coaching to a team of project managers, specialists and/or analysts, in order to drive engagement and performance.
  • Challenge status quo and drive industry best practices implementation across Distribution, Transport, Demand Planning and inventory areas.
  • Foster team cohesion and manage the talent pool to enable organizational capabilities
  • Evaluate the organizational maturity level on different aspects, coordinate best practices sharing and training sessions, is its area of expertise.
  • Recommend strategies and tactics to develop a global culture of continuous improvement
  • Act as subject matter expert and head office contact to corporate support functions

The qualifications we are looking for

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration (operations management, logistics, supply chain), Engineering, or a related field (required)
  • Postgraduate degree or professional certification designation (preferred)
  • At least 10 years of experience having progressive responsibilities in the areas of distribution, logistics, transportation, demand planning and/or inventory management
  • At least 5 years of leadership experience in a project management or consultant role
  • -Experience in the retail industry, within a large-scale national distributor, or a transportation/logistics service provider (an asset)
  • Experience in consulting (an asset)
  • Experience leading in a context of transformational change (an asset)
  • Leadership skills; demonstrated ability to lead teams in a complex organization and quickly establish credibility across the organization to engage and influence others
  • Stakeholder management abilities; demonstrated ability to develop stakeholder relationships and building collaborative processes, as well as the ability to mobilize, coach, and drive accountability with peers and other functional leaders through influence
  • People management skills; demonstrated ability to mobilize, coach, and drive accountability with a team of individual contributors
  • Financial acumen and demonstrated ability to build business cases to support recommendations for new solutions
  • Project management skills; demonstrated ability to lead and manage complex transformation projects from inception to implementation; proven track record of successful system or logistics network implementations involving change management
  • Communication skills; demonstrated ability to clearly and concisely communicate with all levels of the organization and with every business unit to persuade and lead others in challenging situations
  • Critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills; proactive nature and willingness to challenge existing processes and propose new solutions
  • Demonstrated ability to assess, deploy, and leverage technology solutions such as warehouse management systems, network modelling, and analytics tools
  • Knowledge of Blue Yonder system ecosystem (WMS/TMS), JDA (an asset)
  • Ability to travel in Canada,15-20% of the time (required)
