Richmond School District operates 38 elementary schools, 10 secondary schools, alternate programs, continuing education and a number of additional facilities. The district enrolls approximately 21,000 students (K-12) and employs over 3000 dedicated staff.
Core Responsibilities
The Richmond International Education (RIE) team requires an International Student Support Manager (“Manager”) to support several initiatives designed to enhance the experience of international students in the Richmond School District No.38. The Manager is a managerial and professional leader that works to implement RIE’s core values of delivering multi-lingual ’24-7, 365’ wrap-around care to all international students, parents/legal guardians, and responsible adults. Areas of responsibility include: Student Support Services - Elementary; Student Support Services - Secondary; Program Delivery Management; Finance; and management of the after-school Connections program.
Specific Responsibilities
Elementary Program Support: The primary responsibility for this position will be to enhance the ability of elementary international students to be successful in our schools. This will include providing translation, interpretation, and 24/7 wraparound support for all parties (school staff, students and parents) in seeking better understanding and solutions to various issues that may develop from time to time at school and in the community.
After School and Weekend Support: The secondary role of this exempt management position is to manage an afterschool and weekend program (Connections) to help secondary international students get academic program support and tutoring as well as, have an option to develop social connections in a supervised and safe environment through onsite and offsite activities and fieldtrips.
Other Program Support: The Manager will also provide translation, interpretation, and 24/7 wraparound support to international students at secondary schools, as well as perform other duties as based on program needs.
Duties shall include but not be limited to the arrangement of:
Student assessment and program needs
Program development
Staff and scheduling
Payroll consultation
Fee collection and reconciliation
Program supplies
Program Evaluation and improvement
Other Duties
Performs other duties as contained in statute and as assigned from time to time by the Director, Richmond International Education.
Internal and External Relationships
The Manager works with district colleagues, community-based organizations, and internationally based parents/legal guardians and study abroad organizations to support the health and well-being of international students in the district.

Reports to: Director, Richmond International Education
Competencies and Personal Characteristics
This is a role for a self-starting individual who is able to build a team of support to address student needs in varying areas identified above.
Desirable Training and Experience
This position will require a creative, engaging problem solver who has university training in education or a related field (e.g. counseling, social work) with the following areas of experience:
A strong understanding of the cultural/integration issues that surround English Language Learners (ELL) and their families
Budget Management Experience
Demonstrated Management Experience
A strong ability to work with the public, international students and staff
Effective communicator
Ability to use databases
Fluency in Mandarin, Cantonese (written and spoken) and English.
Familiarity with the policies, procedures, and regulations governing the administration of the district, as well Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), Ministry of Education and Child Care (MECC), and Medical Services Plan (MSP).
This position will require some weekend work
*Must have a vehicle and be able to use this on a daily basis
