Casual/On-call Education Assistant
Job Function:
Reports to the school principal or designate
Provides direct educational support to students in various classrooms
Supports students through direct supervision in a variety of settings
Assists students with adaptive skills
Actively involved with students in a variety of settings
Prepares adapted and modified educational materials
Expected to provide personal care assistance including but not limited to lifting, feeding, toileting, etc.
Works with students who have a delegated care plan through Nursing Support Services
Other related duties as required
Qualifications:
Grade 12 graduation
Education Assistant certificate or diploma from a recognized college, 2 year diploma preferred
Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training
Special education/child care related experience
Must acquire specific skills related to a special needs child
Training and extensive behaviour management experience working with children with autism preferred
Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with staff, students and the community
Good interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions
Hours of Work & Salary:
Casual/on-call shifts range from 4 to 6 hours per day, Monday - Friday, while school is in session
Short-term assignments may also be available
Casual employment may lead to a regular position in the district
Education Assistant pay rate is $34.54/hour (plus $0.15 per hour Labour Market Adjustment)
