Story Behind the Need

• Business group: Operational Risk Program


• Project:

- Compile operational risk loss reporting for the Bank's senior management committees, the Board, and for submission to Global Finance. Compile operational risk loss reporting for external bodies, i.e. for OSFI (regulatory reporting) and to ORX (industry body).

- Support tracking of significant operational risk events for senior management.

- Execute controls (e.g. prior to, or during the quarter-end reporting period) to ensure accuracy of reporting.

- It’s a mix of finance and business to collect information operational risk losses and report on them.


Dimensions:

- Global - Multiple Business Lines (e.g., Consumer and Small Business, Corporate and Commercial, International Wealth Management, and GBM units in Latin America).

- Multi-facet engagement relationships with multiple stakeholders in Toronto and countries/regions, such as: Fraud Management, Global Finance, Internal Control teams, etc.


Typical Day in Role:


Operational Risk Event (ORE) Reporting

• Provide accurate and timely reporting of ORE data to the Board and Senior Management, both on an ad-hoc basis and on a quarterly basis via Operational Risk Committee and Enterprise Risk Management reporting.

• Coordinate the quarterly reporting process with first and second-line stakeholders, including the briefing binder (i.e. summary of material OREs), collection and review by all contributors and relevant stakeholders.

• Track Significant Events for the quarterly Briefing Binder and perform quality control on content.

• Accountable for accurate and timely preparation and submission of regulatory reports for OSFI, including the quarterly L3 report. Responsible for reviewing and submitting the Basel III loss dataset to Capital Management on a quarterly basis.

• Accountable for accurate and timely preparation and submission of loss data to ORX on a quarterly basis.

• Facilitate internal and external ad-hoc requests for ORE data.


Operational Risk Event Governance

• Management of the Bank’s operational loss data collection, classification, and reporting process, to provide effective tracking, measurement, and reporting of operational losses across the Bank, including its subsidiaries, and affiliates.

• Contribute to the development and maintenance of process/ procedure documents relating to ORE reporting and data governance.

• Execute or oversee execution of various controls (e.g. duplicate event check, validation of ORMS data to the GL, etc.) to support accuracy and completeness of ORE data.

• Maintain the scope of sources of ORE data for the Bank’s central ORE database to enable robust, reliable, and complete reporting of data as required, including liaising with first line stakeholders to ensure all units are covered and reported.

• Establish and collaborate with an extensive network of contacts pertaining to ORE data, to continually improve on understanding of OREs (both reported and expected), completeness of data, as well as the completeness and accuracy of data collected


Must Have Skills:

- 5+ years progressive experience in financial services.

- 2+ years experience in risk reporting and analytics.

- Strong knowledge of MS Excel, covering areas of data aggregation (e.g. pivot tables) data sorting (vlookup) and macros and Microsoft applications.

- 2+ years of experience working with Power BI reports.


Nice-To-Have Skills:

- Spanish language ability is an asset.

- Experience working in operational risk

- Exp working with risk systems such as OpenPages and leveraging data warehouses.

- Previous experience with FI/ Top 5 banks


Soft Skills:

- Possess excellent organizational skills and be able to prioritize and plan work to meet tight deadlines.

- Possess excellent interpersonal skills to deal with industry experts and professionals across the Bank.


Best vs average: The ideal candidate will have organizational skills, Microsoft app, accounting background, investigating, reconciliation. Strong knowledge of MS Excel, covering areas of data aggregation (e.g. pivot tables) data sorting (vlookup). Prior experience working in operational risk.


Degrees or certifications:

- Education in business management with an emphasis in Finance or Accounting preferred.

- An accounting-related certification (e.g. CA, CMA) and audit experience is desirable, although not mandatory.
