PROJECT BACKGROUND:

The Data Centre and Application Hosting Strategy Architect’s main focus will be to help develop/mature our datacentre and application infrastructure/cloud hosting strategy. This position will be responsible for the business requirements gathering, application inventory assessment evaluation, as well as building a 3-5yr+ infrastructure/cloud hosting strategy for application services. This engagement will deliver a road map of hosting options and recommendations for IMIT to use as guidelines to underpin the IT application delivery strategy.


This engagement will develop a comprehensive Data Centre and Application Hosting Strategy plan for Island Health to use as direction for future infrastructure hosting services, datacentre hosting strategy, and cloud migration strategy for IaaS/PaaS/SaaS services. The Hosting Strategy Architect will provide expertise to establish a 3-5+ year roadmap for infrastructure and cloud hosting that will support Island Health's Digital Health and IMIT application hosting and delivery strategy.

The Data Centre and Application Hosting Strategy Architect will be responsible for performing business requirements gathering, maturing an inventory assessment of applications, evaluating infrastructure needs, and developing a strategic roadmap for hosting services. The Architect will also identify future-proofing options for a scalable, secure, and cost-effective hosting environment that aligns with the long-term objectives of the organization.

Some of the key responsibilities and associated tasks include:

Requirements Gathering and Analysis

• Conduct interviews, workshops, and stakeholder meetings to understand and document business needs, IT goals, and key requirements.

• Analyze existing hosting infrastructure and its alignment with current business objectives.

• Identify and document gaps, risks, and improvement opportunities within the current infrastructure setup.

Application Inventory Assessment

• Review, assess, and enhance the current application inventory assessment of all IT hosted applications within the organization.

• Evaluate the technical, operational, and security requirements of each application in the context of their hosting/delivery strategy.

• Assess the current hosting environment of each application and determine readiness for cloud migration or infrastructure upgrades.

• Develop a report categorizing applications based on hosting suitability (e.g., cloud-ready, on-premises preference, hybrid, etc.).


Infrastructure/Cloud Hosting Strategy Development

• Design a robust infrastructure/cloud hosting strategy document that supports the organization's long-term objectives for scalability, reliability, security, and cost-efficiency.

• Identify hosting options (e.g., private cloud, public cloud, hybrid solutions) for different application types based on their requirements.

• Define best practices, guidelines, and governance for hosting application services, considering security, compliance, and operational resilience.

• Recommend cost-optimization measures and licensing models for future hosting infrastructure.

• Assessment of existing Datacentre Hosting facilities in context of suitability, security, and resiliency recommendations.

• Evaluation and recommendations for other datacentre hosting options that would be feasible within the context of retirement of existing Island Health and provincial facilities.

• Assess other alternative hosting strategies, such as vendor managed services, private cloud, HPE Greenlake, etc. in context of feasibility and cost.

Roadmap and Implementation Planning

• Develop a detailed 3-5yr+ roadmap with phased hosting options and migration recommendations.

• Identify short-term and long-term milestones, including quick wins and high-impact projects.

• Provide insights into technological advancements, industry trends, and future considerations for ongoing strategy refinement.

• Outline a framework, including criteria, for monitoring and reviewing the hosting strategy to adapt to changing business and technology landscapes.


Deliverables:

• Business Requirements Document: A comprehensive document capturing current and future hosting needs, functional and non-functional requirements, and potential business impact.

• Application Inventory Report: A categorized assessment of existing applications, including technical requirements, hosting readiness, and migration recommendations.

• Infrastructure/Data Centre and Cloud Hosting Strategy Document: Detailed strategy with recommended hosting models, best practices, and governance for infrastructure and application hosting.

• 3-5yr+ Roadmap and Implementation Plan: A timeline of phased hosting options with detailed recommendations for IMIT, milestones, and a high-level plan for achieving hosting objectives.

• Presentation of Findings and Recommendations: Presentation to senior leadership outlining key findings, strategic recommendations, and roadmap highlights.
