Occupational Therapist Asst - Physiotherapy Assist - C5 Trauma Unit - Regular Full-time 2024-9658

C5 has an exciting opportunity for an Occupational Therapist/Physiotherapist Assistant (OTA/PTA) to participate in delivering care for patients assigned by the Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists.  The OTA/PTA will be responsible for

  • Complete exercise programs with patients and assist with gait training as assigned by the physiotherapist
  • Carry out ADL training with patients to facilitate independence as assigned by the occupational therapist
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives related to the program
  • Participate in continuous education opportunities to maintain a current and accurate knowledge base and applies best practices to the clinical environment.
  • Assist with patient lifting, transferring and transporting as required.
  • Adhere to all assigned responsibilities.
  • Prepare patients for treatment.
  • Assist the therapist in related duties.
  • Monitor and report any change in health status, performance or progress, or adverse reaction to the assignment and keeps the Occupational Therapist and Physiotherapist fully informed of patient status.
  • Maintain timely charting and workload measurement.
  • Monitor and maintain equipment
  • Other duties as assigned, including general equipment monitoring and departmental duties
  • Directly supervise OTA/PTA students as assigned

 

Qualifications/Skills

  • Diploma from a recognized college for completion of the Occupational Therapist Assistant/Physiotherapist Assistant program
  • Minimum 2-year experience in acute care setting, preferably with trauma populations preferred
  • Experience with post-surgical clients preferred
  • Experience with acquired brain injury and managing high risk behaviours preferred
  • Able to deal effectively with clients with challenging or conflicting situations
  • Proven ability to be responsible for carrying out assigned tasks with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated understanding of rehabilitation principles and ability to collaborate and communicate effectively within an interprofessional team
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a safe manner
  • Knowledge of equipment functioning and experience inspecting equipment and treatment spaces for safety
  • Must be organized and able to complete tasks within the allocated time frames
  • Excellent oral, written, and non-verbal communication skills required
