Occupational Therapist - C6 Medicine Surgical Unit - Regular Full-time 2024-9692

Summary of Duties:              

We have an exciting new opportunity for a regular full-time Occupational Therapist (OT) role in the Integrated Community Program, working in the two GIM units of C6 and C4. The patient populations on C6 include short stay GIM, plastic surgery and gynaecologic oncology, where there is rapid turnover of these beds. The patient population on C4 is GIM. The units of C6 and C4 each have an existing 1.0 FTE OT, with whom the OT in this new role will work together and cross-cover. The OT will be responsible for patient assessment, intervention, and recommendations that facilitate effective discharge planning. The OT will collaborate with patients, families and the interprofessional team members to identify and support the patient’s occupational performance goals for care and to optimize safety in the patient’s transition out of acute care. The OT will participate in profession-specific activities of Occupational Therapy, including annual student education activities in support of the Department of Occupational Science and Occupational, as per Sunnybrook’s full affiliation with the University of Toronto.

 

You will act as an occupational therapy expert resource for staff, students, and other healthcare providers.  You are expected to maintain and upgrade your knowledge and skills through continuing education and professional development, and to seek opportunities for involvement in practice-based research; engaging in knowledge translation through evidence-based practice; and implementing best practices.  You will practice in accordance with Sunnybrook policies and procedures and the regulatory body (COTO) Standards for Practice.

 

Qualifications/Skills

  • Registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario required, with Membership in CAOT, OSOT preferred
  • Previous clinical experience working in GIM required
  • Strong cognitive assessment experience required
  • Experience fabricating custom thermoplastic splints required
  • MoCA certification an asset
  • Proven ability to manage responsive behaviours and wean observers preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and set priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills
  • Time management and caseload prioritization skills
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and adjust priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated ability to creatively problem-solve based on assessment results
  • Ability to work and contribute effectively to an interprofessional team environment to optimize the patient experience
  • Demonstrated commitment to Person-Centred Care concept and principles
