Join our Strategy team and make an impact in Canadian healthcare

It is an exciting time to join SHN's Strategy Office. SHN is in the midst of implementing several big transformational priorities and has recently launched its new 2024-2029 Strategic Plan. Reporting to the Manager of Corporate Strategy, SHN seeks a strategic and dynamic individual to join our team as a Senior Planner. In this position, you will play a key role in supporting the execution of strategic and operational plans to meet the needs of the diverse populations we serve. Your strong skill set will help achieve SHN's goals and objectives and strengthen corporate capacity in planning at various levels, including facilitation, analysis, evaluation, reporting, and project management.

Here's what you'll get to do

  • Provide corporate and clinical planning expertise and project management support to members of the SHN leadership team on developing strategy, programs, services and other organizational priorities

  • Supports the development of the organization's clinical services plan and strategic plan, including research, data analysis, stakeholder engagement, environmental scanning, and issues analysis

  • Supports the implementation and sustainment of a corporate framework for monitoring the achievement of the strategic plan

  • Provide guidance and support to cross-functional teams to ensure the successful implementation of strategic initiatives.

  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of strategic initiatives to ensure they are meeting their objectives.

  • Prepare reports to the executive team on the progress of strategic initiatives.

  • Contributes advice and input, from a strategic perspective, to the development of plans, proposals, and various projects related to the strategic goals of SHN

  • Develop strong relationships with key stakeholders, including physicians, staff, and system partners.

  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices in strategy development.

  • Be part of a new and growing team while learning the ins and outs of how the Canadian healthcare system works.

Here's what you will need

  • Master's degree in business, health, nursing, science or a related field; MBA and clinical experience preferred

  • 5+ years of experience in strategy development, clinical services planning, healthcare planning, management consulting or a similar role

  • Demonstrated experience in planning methodologies, including the collection and analysis of quantitative and qualitative information for planning and storytelling purposes

  • Strong understanding of government and health system priorities, trends, and future directions

  • Strong understanding of the healthcare system and knowledge of key hospital and external databases used for planning purposes (e.g. OCHPP, Census statistics)

  • Experience planning and leading strategic projects within a large complex environment

  • Ability to develop, implement, and monitor performance management systems, including the creation of performance scorecards and KPIs

  • Produce high-quality, consultant-level deliverables that are targeted to different audiences

  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, with a specific focus on understanding the full functionalities of PowerPoint to develop polished and visual products

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including expertise in the development and delivery of presentations to a variety of stakeholder groups

  • Evidence of facilitation skills including diverse stakeholders such as patients, clinicians, staff, and community members

  • Pride in doing great work, a mindset of taking things to the finish line, and attention to detail

These "nice to have" skills will help you succeed on day one

  • Master's degree in Business or Health Administration or working towards

  • Clinical experience, including clinical service delivery planning

  • Project Management certificate (PMP) or working towards, or equivalent experience.
