General Purpose

It’s an exciting time to join Human Resources (HR) as we have recently transitioned to a new Human Resources Management System to enhance our ability to meet the increasing demands for in-depth quantitative and qualitative analysis of the University’s compensation programs and HR metrics.

Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to Director, HR Systems, Data, and Payroll, the Business Process Specialist will be responsible for the following key activities:

  • Liaising with HR, Computing and Communications Services (CCS) and other university stakeholders on how to best address information systems changes to meet current and future business requirements.
  • Analyzing, understanding, and documenting HR processes and workflows in the current state and working to define the improved future state. Documenting and providing post-implementation support for business process changes.
  • Coordinating with HR and/or CCS to understand and document data flow from HR systems to internal and external partners. Completing detailed system functional specifications for reports, interfaces, or extensions between the enterprise application team and the HR functional teams on software development requirements.
  • Critically evaluating information gathered from multiple sources, reconciling conflicts, decomposes high-level information into details, abstracts up from low-level information to a general understanding, and distinguishes user requests from the underlying true needs.
  • Conducting and validating system integration testing, user acceptance testing and data migration testing both individually and via workshops with workstream leads, subject matter experts and end users. Through the testing process ensuring that the implementation meets the business needs identified through the requirement gathering process.
  • In addition, supporting the creation and/or review of manuals, procedures, and related user documentation by the change management professionals.
  • Following requirements gathering, project management and change management best practices

This position works closely with the HRMS project team, Human Resources, CCS Enterprise Applications, the CCS Project Management Office, external vendors/service providers, and HR field users across all departments within the University.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Business or a related field.
  • 3.5 years of previous work experience in business or process analysis.
  • Understanding of University organizational structure, policies, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of project management and/or business analysis best practices (PMI, IIBA, or other).
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word) and communication tools, Windows.
  • Experience with business analysis and project management tools such as Visio and Azure DevOps would be a strong asset.
  • The ability to learn new software tools with minimal guidance.
  • The ability to engage in multiple initiatives simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, assertiveness, problem solving, organizational and proven stress management skills; ability to work independently; proven ability to work cooperatively within a team environment; effectiveness in dealing with multiple clients, demands and tasks; excellent attention-to-detail and accuracy skills; excellent time management skills
  • Open to learning, exercise good judgement and have a high degree of flexibility.
  • High-level of diplomacy, sensitivity and confidentiality.
