General Purpose:

The Research Innovation Office helps transform the University of Guelph’s world-class research into innovations that change lives and improve life. Our Industry Liaison team seeks to maximize the partnerships between University of Guelph research programs and industry sponsors to increase research impact.

Reporting to the Director, Technology Transfer & Industry Liaison, the Industry Liaison Business Development Officer will participate in the development and execution of strategy, increasing the number of companies and other industry partners that sponsor research on campus.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Improving understanding and value proposition of a wide variety of research programs on campus.
  • Engaging with companies to encourage new sponsored research relationships, and being a strong advocate and guide for available leveraging opportunities.
  • Develop and disseminate marketing materials, guides, success stories and other resources to facilitate the development of research partnerships.
  • Represent the University at professional meetings, trade conferences and the like.
  • Establish and maintain a strong network.

Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree and 2 years of experience
  • A strong ability to translate diverse science to plain language, focusing on benefits to the audience
  • A desire and demonstrated track record of learning new knowledge and skills, and a desire to grow a career in the field of technology transfer
  • Experience building relationships with a variety of stakeholders
  • A demonstrated ability to stay organized, and develop strong CRM processes
  • Experience in business and market analysis
  • Experience related to the commercialization of research results
  • Experience working with CRMs
  • Demonstrated experience in building networks and maintaining strong relationships
  • Valid driver’s license

The successful candidate will have the ability to quickly identify potential problems, analyze, recommend and execute one or more solutions and will exhibit solid interpersonal, communication and presentation skills. An entrepreneurial approach is expected.
