Come work as a Psychiatrist with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)!

Richmond Hospital Department of Psychiatry is currently seeking a psychiatrist to join in a Permanent position to fill 2 part time positions in hospital. Position to start immediately.

Richmond Adult Mental Health Team (0.3 FTE position), based in the community, is a program that provides longer-term management of serious and persistent mental health conditions requiring an interdisciplinary treatment team. The majority of referrals are from Family Physicians in the community, the Emergency Department, as well as the In-Patient Unit.

Richmond Hospital Psychiatric Assessment Unit (PAU)/ED In-Patient Service (0.45 FTE position) is based at Richmond Hospital and specifically provides services to admitted in-patients in hospital. The Psychiatrist would provide psychiatric assessment and treatment to patients admitted in medical and surgical wards, do consultants in the Emergency Department and would liaise and collaborate with the primary care team for integrated patient care.

Richmond Mental Health Out-Patient Services (OPD) (0.25 FTE) is based in Richmond Hospital and provides consultation and short-term management of general mental health conditions of a moderate severity. The majority of referrals are from Family Physicians in the community, the Emergency Department, as well as the In-Patient Unit. The Out-Patient department also has a robust group program and the successful candidate would participate in the development of range of individual and group psychotherapy, running of groups as well as providing supervision for psychiatry residents for their psychotherapy either as an elective or to meet their psychotherapy competencies for the training program.

Richmond Hospital is a fully accredited, 228 acute care bed facility serving a local population of 200,000 with an additional catchment area of almost 120,000. Richmond Hospital is focused on meeting the needs of the people it serves and is seeking a Psychiatrist to provide services to an adult population in a team-based model.

Richmond is the fourth most populous and fast growing municipalities in Metro Vancouver. To meet the growing demand for healthcare services, Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is ensuring we plan for the future. Richmond Hospital is undergoing plans for a campus wide expansion and renewal. As announced on July 2020 by the Premier and Minster of Health, the aims is to build a new acute care tower. Incorporating modernized healthcare design principles, the new facility provide increased inpatient care beds, perioperative services, medical imaging and emergency services to support quality patient care and staff wellness and safety. Detailed planning is currently underway with a project completion target of 2028.

  • Current College of Physicians of BC (CPSBC) - Provisional
  • Canadian College of Family Practitioners (CCFP) - Eligible
  • Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) - Mandatory
  • Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC) - Desired
