Manager of Business Operations - Continuing Education
The Waterloo Catholic District School Board serves over 38,000 learners and provides services to students in 50 schools (Kindergarten to Grade 12 and adult learners) across the Waterloo Region.

General Description of Duties:
Reporting to the Executive Superintendent of Corporate Services, the incumbent in this challenging position will be responsible for a diverse portfolio of responsibilities which support system and student needs. Responsibilities include:
Supporting the development of business plans for St. Louis Adult Learning and Continuing Education Centre (Con Ed)
Costing out programs and services to ensure decisions are made using accurate information
Making recommendations and implementing changes to Con Ed course offerings, administrative structures, processes, and operational activities to ensure student needs are met and expenses do not exceed revenues
Supporting Con Ed student data management in Fujitsu Aspen including managing data quality, system upgrades/changes, and extracting data for reporting purposes
Creating a multi-year budget plan based on available facility space, stakeholder demand, available staffing, system needs, grants, technology, and infrastructure requirements
Creating a detailed annual budget based on estimates of enrolment, revenues, and expenses (Spring) and a detailed revised budget based on actual enrolment and program offerings (Fall)
Monitoring and reporting on budget progress on a regular basis by preparing reliable forecasts in a format that is easily consumed by non-financial users
Working with multiple external funders to access and maximize grants and report on the same as required
Preparing adjusting entries as required
Supporting program managers as required with timesheets, expense reimbursement, reports, and program review
Collaboration and program coordination with Board level departments, such as but not limited to IT and Payroll, to review, revise and support the implementation of process changes as it pertains to St. Louis programs and staff
Attending regular meetings with Con Ed administrative staff to ensure stakeholders’ needs are met, and to provide input into decision-making affecting programing and operations
Chairing the Board’s enrolment projection committees which includes developing timelines based on the Board’s budgeting process, requesting and analyzing data from various information systems, presenting data to committee members, and, informed by the Board’s risk appetite, helping the committee to make informed enrolment forecast recommendations to management
Extracting, analyzing, and sharing quarterly enrolment data with the finance team for purposes of budget forecasting
Entering and or verifying enrolment data in the province’s data collection facility
Preparing and presenting various financial reports to staff, management, and elected officials
Assisting with special projects / analysis on an ad hoc basis
Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
Professional accounting designation (CPA) or actively pursuing a designation.
Degree in accounting, commerce, business administration or another related field
5 or more years of experience in a supervisory or management finance role with similar responsibilities
Proficiency in a range of computer applications including Microsoft 365 apps, web reporting tools.
Candidate must have professional level Excel skills and a high level of business acumen
Excellent leadership, communication (verbal and written), and organizational skills
DESIRABLE ASSETS:
Diploma in School Board Administration (OASBO)
Experience with an Ontario school board or similar complex public sector employer
Salary Range: PASS Level 9 $93,005 - $109,417
Hours of Work: Full-time, 35 hours per week / 52 weeks per year
Location(s): Catholic Education Centre, 35 Weber Street West, Unit A, Kitchener, Ontario and the St. Louis Adult Learning Centre Campuses across waterloo region.
