Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient- centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.

Position Overview

On behalf of Manitoba Health, Shared Health will manage the government Provincial Fire & Life Safety (PF&LS) Project. This $280 million project will address identified fire and life safety issues across the province. Guided by an assessment of all healthcare sites, there are 194 sites where improvements to the fire and life safety systems are required. Shared Health will work with each of the provincial regional health authorities (RHA’s), fire and life safety engineering consultant (FLSE) and the primary project engineering and management service (PEMS) to deliver this project over at least a five-year period.

This position will support the delivery of projects within the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority representing 39 projects over the next 7 years at an estimated cost of $67M. These projects are all complex as they are being implemented in large, active facilities with a need to maintain the provincial bed capacity. The position will also support other projects across Manitoba as necessary and appropriate.

Main Function
Reporting to the Director of PF&LS Project, the Project Manager will work on multiple fire and life safety projects in support of Winnipeg Regional Health Authority being responsible for management and coordination of project resources through various phases of design and construction while demonstrating a commitment to the Vision, Mission and Values of Shared Health. The Project Manager is an expert resource to healthcare facilities across Manitoba with respect to project direction/implementation, site utilization and strategic planning, representing stakeholders on highly complex and highly specialized capital projects.

Experience
  • Minimum 3 years of progressive experience in a management capacity with demonstrated project management through all phases of highly complex major capital projects.
  • Direct Healthcare capital project experience will be considered an asset as will understanding of public sector funding and accountability structures of the health care system.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
  • Successful completion of post-secondary education in Architecture, Engineering, Interior Design, Environmental Design, Engineering Technology or Architectural Technology, or equivalent is required.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
  • Current licensing with a respective professional association is considered an asset.
  • Project Management Professional accreditation or training is considered an asset.
  • Must have a valid drivers’ license and vehicle.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Relevant healthcare education, management and public sector administration are considered assets as is professional accreditation and continuing education.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret program data, architectural and engineering documents, specialized equipment specifications, code and standards intent and provide analysis to support advancement of Regional objectives.
  • Working knowledge of construction contract law, CCDC documents, public tendering practices, business management and business ethics principles required.
Physical Requirements
  • Must have the physical ability to cope with construction site inspections, following proper construction site safety protocol.
  • Must be able to work safely in a typical computerized office environment with frequent meetings at multiple sites throughout the organization.
  • Interruptions to respond to questions from executives and government representatives are common; dedicated and focused time for planning and concentration can be scheduled.
  • Must have a valid Manitoba driver’s license and use of a personal motor vehicle for regular travel within the service area.
