Volunteer Services Coordinator
Full-time - 36.25 hours per week
$28.70 - $34.16 per hour
This is a full-time, 12-month permanent position in the Staff Support & Relations department.
Under the direction of the Director of Staff Support & Relations, the Volunteer Services Coordinator is responsible for: assessing volunteer needs of schools; performing all functions related to recruiting and staffing volunteer positions.
Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
Meeting with Instructional and Administrative staff at each school to assess volunteer needs
Developing and preparing a variety of resources for volunteers such as program/resource guides and handbooks
Providing research on volunteer programs to generate new program recruiting ideas and coordinating the promotion of programs through a variety of media such as radio, social networks, TV and newspapers
Screening, interviewing and placing volunteers in appropriate schools/locations
Providing orientation to volunteers regarding school programs and facilities, policies and procedures, as well as expectations of school staff
Providing a variety of training and workshops to ensure volunteers have the necessary skills to perform tasks, as well as booking speakers/trainers, facilities and equipment and preparing training materials
Assisting schools in recognizing the work of volunteers with the planning and implementation of recognition programs and events
Networking with the community volunteer organizations through memberships and conferences, use of Volunteer Centre and serving on community boards and committees
Qualifications:
Business Education degree or diploma and/or a Volunteer Management certificate or diploma from a recognized college or institute
more than 2 years and less than or including 3 years prior volunteer management experience in a school or community environment
combination of other experience and education may be considered
excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to clarify volunteers’ needs and provide feedback
strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact effectively and tactfully with Teachers, Parents, Principals and Administrators when reviewing and discussing program goals, objectives, new programs, and volunteer needs
the ability to promote volunteer programs, make presentations and lead meetings
excellent organizational and time management skills to handle multiple deadlines and deal with constant interruptions
