Your Opportunity

BDO Canada is looking for a dynamic and experienced Manager to join our Resource Management team in a 6-12 month contract opportunity. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership skills, strategic thinking, and a commitment to optimizing workforce planning and resource allocation.

As a Manager, Resource Management, you will be responsible for driving team performance, fostering a collaborative work environment, and ensuring the success of our projects and initiatives through effective resource management. We're looking for you to own the following responsibilities:

  • Mentor and support resource coordinators / specialists through training and guidance and ensure that the team is optimizing resource allocation to projects based on skillsets, availability, and project requirements.

  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive team environment that promotes continuous learning and professional development.

  • Act as a point of contact/escalation point for resource oversight, conflict resolution, and development of solutions aligned with business goals.

  • Maintain comprehensive visibility on resource capacity, budgeted hours, and targets for the year, ensuring that upcoming demands are captured by the team and proactively planned out for resource needs.

  • Leverage past utilization data and forecasted schedules to optimize resource allocation on project engagements and ensure balanced utilization and client satisfaction.

  • Identify staff skillsets, preferences and gaps to best utilize them through suitable engagements that cater to client needs and foster future growth and training opportunities.

  • Develop strong relationships with management teams by understanding key priorities and managing changes effectively.

  • Build and analyze robust reports using internal databases and Microsoft Excel, focusing on chargeability and utilization, as well as trends and opportunities for improvement.

  • Forecast and analyze data related to new hires, attrition, promotions etc. to provide insights and data-driven recommendations to improve resource allocation and utilization.

  • Identify and implement best practices in resourcing processes and reporting.

  • Attend regular resourcing meetings with representatives from the business to align strategies and practices.

  • Challenge resourcing requests against key engagement metrics to ensure appropriate allocation of resources.

  • Collaborate with key stakeholders such as project managers, partners, local and national teams, and with HR to identify resource requirements and deploy capabilities effectively.

  • Participate in the adoption of digital tools and strategies for an innovative workplace.

Your experience and education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Operations, HR, Finance OR equivalent relevant experience.

  • 7+ years of experience in resource management or project management within a professional services environment.

  • Proven experience in a managerial role acting as a strategic partner, with a focus on resource management and workforce planning.

  • Strong leadership skills: someone who builds trust through integrity, openness and transparency in actions and communications.

  • Experience in analyzing complex situations and developing strategic solutions.

  • Strong communication, analytical, and strategic thinking skills.

  • Track record of successfully managing multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Ability to engage business partners and stakeholders to quickly develop in-depth knowledge of the client's people and business objectives.

  • In-depth knowledge of industry standards and resource management best practices.

  • Demonstrated ability to foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment, with a culture of accountability and proactiveness.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to challenges; ability to guide the team in critical thinking

  • Proficiency in using databases, MS Office and Microsoft Excel for reporting and analysis; experience with Workday is an asset.

  • Ability to break down information, analyze data, and derive actionable insights.
