Position: Literacy and Numeracy Support Teacher

Location: Berens River School

Start Date: As soon as possible

FTE: 1.00 FTE

Term of Employment: Term to June 27, 2025

Berens River School is a Nursery to Grade 9 School with approximately 230 students. Berens River is a community of approximately 3,546 located on the eastern shore of Lake Winnipeg, a 4 hour drive north of Winnipeg. This lakeside town offers community services such as a general store, Northern store and a community hall. The beautiful surrounding area is a recreational paradise offering a variety of outdoor activities such as fishing, hiking and canoeing.

Working in collaboration with the classroom teacher, the Literacy and Numeracy Support Teacher provides the following services:

• Programming support and development

• Classroom support

• Individualized and small group instruction

• Assessments

Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Education Degree and valid Manitoba Teaching Certificate (or eligibility for)

• Current knowledge of effective literacy and numeracy instruction and assessment practices

• Experience providing, creating and implementing individualized programming for At Risk students and students with special needs

• Knowledge and experience with balanced literacy, guided Reading, guided Math, Fountas and Pinnell

• Strong planning and communication skills

• A strong background in language development

• Knowledge and implementation of cooperative learning/small group instruction

• Ability to work in classrooms alongside teachers, colleagues and contribute collaboratively as a team member

• Certification as a trained Reading Recovery™ teacher would be considered an asset.
