Job Description

The Phoenix Program at Halton Healthcare provides care to individuals experiencing signs and symptoms of an early psychosis between the ages of 14 and 35 years.

We are looking for experienced and dedicated staff who have a strong clinical background, preferably in acute psychiatry - adult, or child and adolescent. You will be an exceptional team player, able to work effectively with patients and families.

As an occupational therapist working in the Mental Health Program, you will work as part of an inter-professional team addressing the acute needs of this population and their families. This includes:

  • Providing specialized assessments and developing appropriate treatment programs to address a patients’ functional abilities
  • Collaborating with the team, patients, and their families, to develop care plans based on patient goals, knowledge of recovery and psychosocial treatment modalities.
  • Facilitating evidence-based groups to address patient needs
  • Supporting discharge planning, including assisting with resources
  • Completing all documentation as per hospital and College standards
  • Providing supervision to occupational therapy students and volunteers
  • Participating in quality improvement initiatives

Qualifications
  • Current registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario

  • Member of CAOT preferred

  • Minimum 1-3 years recent and relevant clinical experience in working with individuals experiencing an acute mental illness

    Knowledge of the Mental Health Act, DSM-V and best practice guidelines for schizophrenia

  • Sound clinical judgment and strong assessment and treatment skills, with proficiency in crisis intervention, suicide risk assessment, psychoeducation and group therapy,

  • Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational and relationship skills
  • Evidence of continued professional development and education
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills needed
  • Experience working with schools, workplaces and other community resources
  • Ability to work in collaborative partnership with clients, family and community resources
  • Satisfactory employment and attendance record required
  • Up to date certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention preferred
  • Valid G Driver's License and access to a vehicle is required to travel within Halton region.

Additional Information

REPOST

Hours: Monday to Friday - 7.5 hour shifts - 8:30 - 16:30 (4 days) and 1 evening shift, 11:00 - 19:00, (Hours are subject to change based on operational needs)

Salary: $38.846 to $54.782 per hour
