In partnership with the Government of Prince Edward Island, Medavie Health Services operates PEI’s Mobile Mental Health Service that provides a community-focused response to Islanders experiencing mental health concerns. These services are offered both over the phone and in person visits.

The Mobile Mental Health Clinician will serve in two rotating capacities, providing direct service to clients in the field as a member of a Mobile Crisis Team as well as providing triage and telehealth services to clients in distress. As a member of the Mobile Crisis Team, this position is responsible for services for individuals in crisis requiring de-escalation, mental health and risk assessments, and coordination of care and supports in the community. The position also involves working collaboratively with Mobile Crisis Team partner agencies, emergency room departments, community mental health and addictions, and psychiatrists. The Mobile Mental Health Clinician will participate in collaborative care efforts with other interdisciplinary service providers such as, but not limited to, Community Mental Health, Primary Care, Psychiatry, EMS, justice, victims’ services, child and family services, and police services.

The Mobile Mental Health Clinician will also answer calls coming in from the Mental Health and Addictions Access Line. The Mobile Mental Health Clinician assists clients, their families, their caregivers, other health care professionals, and community partners from a broad spectrum of health, social, and community programs and services by utilizing information and

telecommunications technologies to support the delivery, management, and coordination, of mobile crisis and community-based services using evidence-based, interdisciplinary, and integrated care pathways. Clinicians use telehealth to deliver care, provide education, monitor client progress, access patient records, obtain information, and foster communication with clients, Mobile Crisis Team members, family members, caregivers, health care providers, and community partners.

The Mobile Mental Health Clinician provides intervention(s) for acute and chronic mental health care needs, illnesses and injuries, and supports emergent events through the use of telecommunications technologies including: computer, internet, telephone, text messaging, email, radio, tablets, video and audio conferencing, computer information systems, and other digital platforms and emerging health technologies. The Mobile Crisis Telehealth Clinician provides teleconsultation, client crisis and risk assessment, remote monitoring, Mobile Crisis Team support, referral/navigation, case management/follow-up, and other system support services to promote timely, coordinated and integrated crisis and follow-up care for clients; to facilitate improved patient flow through the health care system; to increase client, family, caregiver, healthcare provider, and community partner satisfaction; to facilitate improved communication between health, social, and community care programs and services, including health care providers; and to provide a point of contact and resource for the aforementioned individuals and agencies.

Duties include but are not limited to:

· Participates in the development and implementation of administrative and clinical programs as directed by the supervisor

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in one of the following: Counselling Therapy, Psychology, Psychotherapy, Social Work. Must be eligible and willing to be registered with a regulatory body.
  • Significant clinical experience, preferably involving assessment of and exposure to acute as well as chronic and persistent mental illness; treatment and/or case management of clients with mental illness; work with clients of varied ages and levels of intellect; exposure to addictions-related issues; and experience working in varied mental health settings as well as in the community
  • Strong and demonstrated health assessment skills are required to conduct physical, mental, psychosocial and functional environmental assessments with patients for screening, monitoring, treatment and referral;
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of the provincial health system including primary, home and community care programs and services available across the health and social care continuum;
  • Registration with or eligible for registration with the; PEI Social Work Registration Board; College of Counselling Therapists of PEI or Psychologists Registration Board.
  • Experience collaborating with other agencies; psychiatry; other medical providers; law enforcement; and/or EMS and Experience on interdisciplinary teams, program development and extensive case management.
  • Requires independent professional judgement, initiative, self-reliance, and adaptability in developing, organizing, and formulating case information
  • Demonstrates critical thinking, clinical judgment and independent decision-making skills required to develop, monitor and implement care plans;
  • Proven communication and problem-solving skills, both oral and written; conflict resolution and negotiation skills; ability to handle crisis situations; and capability to lead, as appropriate, a multi-disciplinary team; a project; and/or a committee
  • Must have the ability to work effectively as a reliable member of a team, to include respecting professional boundaries, cultural differences, and team decisions; to work independently with minimal supervision; and to adapt to a changing, evolving environment.
  • Proficient in use of computer systems technology including skills in the following competency areas: data and information retrieval, entry, analysis and application from diverse sources;
  • Knowledge of the DSM-5, Mental Health Act, Criminal Code Review Board and crisis intervention in a mental health setting is required.
  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) training
  • Suicide risk assessment training
  • Violence risk assessment training
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Must have a good work and attendance record.

Other Qualifications:

  • Related clinical experience that would be an asset includes:
  • Possessing related clinical experience that may include working with mental health and addictions-related issues
  • Demonstrated ability to provide initial psychological interviews and assessments
  • Demonstrated maturity and a capacity to work effectively with resistant and aggressive client groups
  • Experience working with vulnerable and at-risk populations
  • Experience working with clients with complex needs, chronic illness, mental illness, substance use/addiction, concurrent disorders and cognitive decline
  • Proficiency in both French and English would be an asset;
  • Additional relevant education and experience will be considered an asset.

Salary range is $35.97 - $44.99 per hour.
