Job Description:

Position Overview:
Reporting to the Executive Vice President, Chief Nursing and Allied Professional Executive, this position is responsible for providing creative and effective leadership to the Surgical Program across all sites of Scarborough Health Network to enable optimal clinical decision-making and patient care within the program. This role also works closely with our community partners, Ontario Health (OH) and Scarborough OHT to advance activities that promote seamless patient care across the continuum. The scope of the role involves planning and coordinating patient care services within the program to ensure the provision of seamless, efficient and effective delivery of patient care services. The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring that maximum fiscal accountability and quality performance standards are met.

The successful candidate will have 5-7 years of progressive professional experience in a complex multi-site acute care environment, demonstrating leadership experience in building relationships, fostering collaboration, leading change and exploring innovative approaches to care delivery that focuses on improving the patient experience. The successful candidate will have the ability to transform and continuously deliver positive outcomes of care in a fast-paced, high volume environment. In addition to a Master’s Degree, the candidate will ideally bring leadership experience with a successful track record in peri-operative services.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership to ensure systems are in place to enable optimal clinical decision-making and patient care within the individual programs and across programs and sites.

  • Collaborate with the Medical Director, Program Business Managers and other team members to create a vision for the program that is consistent with the Corporate Mission and Vision.

  • Develop and utilize metrics to ensure the achievement of identified program and corporate outcomes.

  • Ensure the effective and efficient use of resources, both fiscal and human, within the program and corporately.

  • Manage an overall budget responsibility of approximately $80 million

  • Create an environment and culture that will ensure patient and staff safety, and individual accountability.

  • Demonstrate ability to support and embrace the philosophy of Patient and Family Centered Care.


Requirements:

  • Master's degree in a clinical discipline and/ or health-related discipline, CHE preferred.

  • 5-7 years of progressive professional experience in a complex acute care environment.

  • Proven management skills, including quality improvement, change management, evaluation, planning and utilization management skills, risk and patient safety.

  • Demonstrated track record implementing complex change initiatives.

  • Evidence of innovative leadership skills and proven ability to foster a collaborative team approach to decision making.

  • Thorough understanding of LEAN management principles and benchmarking principles and practices.

  • Foster positive, respectful internal and external relationships/partnerships.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills in negotiation, conflict resolution and consensus building with a participative / consultative style that brings consensus.

  • Understanding of labour relations issues and processes.

  • Ability to relate effectively with front-line staff and all levels of management, physicians, board members and the public.

  • Strong business, financial and human resource management experience, including planning, analytical and organizational skills.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Surgical nursing experience an asset.
