Job Summary

The Team:
The Financial Management Branch within the Office of the Comptroller General offers a CPA Articling Student role, which is part of a dynamic and diverse team dedicated to professional growth. This established team has been nurturing CPA students for three years, guiding them through a 24-month CPA PEP program and 30-month Practical Experience Requirements. The role includes rotations across various branches and ministries, providing invaluable experience alongside Internal Audit, Financial Reporting, and partner ministries. The supportive environment features a designated mentor, reimbursement of module fees, and opportunities for loan forgiveness through the Pacific Leaders B.C. program.

The Role:

The CPA Articling Student plays a crucial role in supporting and enhancing government financial policies and frameworks. Responsibilities include preparing and analyzing financial information, assisting with budgeting and performance measurement, and providing valuable audit and assurance advice. With rotational assignments across various ministries, the role offers hands-on experience in areas such as Financial Reporting, Management Accounting, Audit and Assurance, Strategy and Governance, and Finance, contributing to effective financial management and governance.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in or working towards the necessary prerequisites for admission into the CPA PEP with at least a current minimum of a 2.33 GPA / 65% in the Prerequisite courses.

Preference may be given applicants with:

  • Experience working in a financial role (such as AP, AR, Payroll, etc).
  • Applicants with a higher GPA.

Provisos

  • Completion of an undergraduate degree or Canadian equivalent, by Summer 2024.
  • Enrolled in the CPA PEP program by Summer 2025.
  • Completed prerequisites for the CPA program by Summer 2025.

Willingness Statement

  • Occasional travel may be required outside the Victoria area.
