Job Summary

The Team:

Join the Kootenay Business Area Planning Team in BC Timber Sales (TKO) and become part of a passionate group of forest professionals committed to sustainable practices. Based in Nelson, BC, you will collaborate with Planning Officers, fellow Planning Foresters across field teams, and the GIS team. Our team prioritizes equity, diversity, and inclusion by working closely with government staff, First Nations, industry, and public resource user groups, ensuring diverse perspectives contribute to innovative planning and responsible forest management practices.

The Role:

As a Planning Forester, you will build and maintain strong relationships with internal teams and external partners, contributing to the development and execution of long-term operating plans that align with legislative requirements. Your role will include overseeing field assessment contracts, supporting compliance with BC forestry legislation, and promoting responsible forest stewardship. This position offers opportunities for career growth and professional development by engaging in a wide variety of forestry tasks while fostering inclusive collaboration with diverse stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • A Registered Professional Forester (RPF) or be eligible for registration as an RPF with the Association of BC Forest Professionals (ABCFP) and two years of experience in operational field forestry activities.
  • Operational field forestry activities include the following: • Timber harvesting monitoring/conformance
    • Cut-block development
    • Forest road engineering
    • Silviculture
    • Timber tenure development and administration
    • Planning integrated resource management
  • Must possess at minimum a valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s License that does not limit or restrict the ability to conduct the duties of the job.

Preference may be given to candidates with one (1) or more of the following:

  • Directly related planning and integrated resource management experience
  • Experience working with Indigenous People
  • Coursework or experience in contract or financial administration

About this Position:
There is currently one (1) position available in Nelson
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement and successfully completed probation period.
An eligibility list may be established for similar vacancies within the BC Timber Sales Kootenay Business Area (Nelson, Castlegar, Cranbrook, Grand Forks, Nakusp)
Applicants who do not fully meet the required qualifications may be considered for this position, but at a lower classification.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
