Job Summary

BC Timber Sales (BCTS) is a unique program of the Ministry of Forests (MOF). Working collaboratively with regional and district operations, BCTS plans, develops, and auctions a substantial portion of the province’s annual available timber volume. BCTS operates as a for profit entity within a government organization. Its goal is to provide credible representative price and cost benchmark data for the Market Pricing System through auctions of timber harvested from British Columbia’s public land. BCTS operations are guided by three overarching principles, forest sector safety, reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples and sustainable forest management.

The Team

Join the BC Timber Sales (BCTS) Cariboo-Chilcotin Engineering Team, a diverse group of four professionals dedicated to maintaining and enhancing our Forest Service Roads and structures. As part of this team, you'll collaborate closely with the Williams Lake and Quesnel Timber Development Teams and the Planning Officer to ensure project milestones are met efficiently. The Role

BC Timber Sales (BCTS) is seeking self-starting individuals eager to contribute to and learn from a team of professionals. As an Engineering Officer, you will have three direct reports or supervise three engineering staff members, you will plan and manage the engineering program within the Cariboo Chilcotin Business Area, including responsibilities for bridge and major structures, surveys, resource roads, and road design. This role emphasizes budget management, contract oversight, stakeholder consultation, certification, and public safety, ensuring compliance with engineering, environmental, and legislative standards. Job Requirements:

  • A degree or diploma in forest engineering, forest management, engineering or equivalent related field and three (3) years of experience in road, bridge and major structures design, construction and maintenance; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience such as five (5) years of experience in road, bridge and major structures design, construction and maintenance.
  • Applicants must be registered or eligible for registration with Forest Professionals British Columbia (FPBC) as a:
    • Registered Professional Forester; OR
    • Another applicable professional (i.e., P.Eng.) eligible to hold a special practice permit with FPBC.
  • Experience in contract and/or project management.
  • Experience in managing complex road and/or bridge construction projects.
  • Must possess at minimum a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence that does not limit or restrict the ability to conduct the duties of the job.

Preference may be given to applicants with one (1) or more of the following:

  • Experience supervising staff.
  • Budget management or financial administration experience.

Provisos:

  • Must be willing and able to withstand the rigors of fieldwork.
  • Must be willing to work in adverse weather conditions.
  • Must be willing and able to travel to meet job requirements.
  • Must be willing and able to travel in fixed and or rotary winged aircraft and or watercraft.

About this Position:

This position can be located in Williams Lake or Quesnel.
Flexible work options are available; these positions may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
