STO-RE 18R - Senior Park Ranger - Amended and extended

The Team

The Lakelse Douglas Channel Area team is a newly established, flexible, and cooperative group dedicated to maintaining the pristine parks in the Northern BC corridor. With a small team that includes full-time members, potential part-time support, and occasional student Rangers, we foster a supportive and inclusive environment. You'll work closely with the Area Supervisor and collaborate with other regional teams, all while contributing to the vital balance between conservation and recreation.

The Role

In this role, you'll engage in a dynamic mix of fieldwork, planning, paperwork, maintenance, and purchasing, with each day bringing a new adventure-from crafting First Nation Consultation Packages to patrolling parks by vessel or maintaining vital infrastructure. Your work will have a direct impact on conservation efforts and public education, helping protect and preserve Northern BC's pristine parks and unique wildlife. This is a rare opportunity to explore some of the most remote and beautiful landscapes in the region, where few have ventured, all while contributing to the preservation of these incredible environments. Qualifications

Job Requirements

• Completed related degree or 2-year diploma in an Outdoor Recreation Management or a Natural Resource Management related field (related field may include: Biology, Geology, Geography, Recreational Planning, Outdoor Recreation, Forestry, Fisheries, Anthropology); OR,
• Secondary school graduation (or equivalent) and 2 years’ related experience (related experience can include: park system (operations), conservation, outdoor recreation, forestry, any earth sciences, recreation planning, public safety /enforcement).

Special Requirements:

• Current and WorkSafe BC recognized Occupational First Aid Level 1, 2 or 3 Certificate.
• Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence (or equivalent from another Canadian Province; a BC Class 7L/7N, or other learner’s permit, are not considered equivalent).
• Successful completion of Enhanced Security Screening, including fingerprint screening immediately upon Successful offer.
• Completion of BC Parks Law and Its Administration (BCIT PRKS 1010 or 0010 course). This course can be obtained through the BC Institute of Technology (BCIT). Course information can be found at: https://www.bcit.ca/study/courses/prks1010.
  • *Note: if you have already successfully completed the BCIT PRKS 3110/3120 courses, BCIT course 1010 is not required. Successful candidates will have up to 3 months from date of hire to successfully complete this course. If required, work time will be provided to complete the course and course costs will be reimbursed upon successful completion.
• Maintains a current Firearms Possession and Acquisition Licence [PAL]
  • *Note: If required, work time will be provided to complete the course and course costs will be reimbursed upon successful completion.
• Possesses a Pleasure Craft Operator Card or higher marine certification issued by Transport Canada

Preference may be given to:

• Experience in compliance and enforcement
• Application and interpretation of policy and legislation
• Experience of parks and/or grounds maintenance methods and equipment.
• Experience in cultural or natural resource management
• Experience in Parks or ground maintenance and equipment
• Experience of cultural and natural resource management
• Experience of permitting and contract management
• Experience of project management principles and processes.
• Experience of conflict resolution relating to client issues.
