The Team
The Scaling and Waste team is an established group of dedicated professionals that includes two Supervisors and two check scalers. Collaborating closely with the Cruising and Appraisals teams, they play a critical role in safeguarding revenue for the province.
The Role
As the Scaling Officer - Interior, you’ll take on diverse responsibilities, including waste submission approvals, field audits, and check scaling, all of which play a vital role in protecting provincial revenue. With a mix of outdoor work and varied tasks, this position offers a rewarding sense of accomplishment each day. Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Valid Interior Scaler licence with required endorsements, OR
- Registered, or immediately eligible for registration, as a Registered Forest Technologist (RFT) or a Registered Professional Forester (RPF) with Forest Professionals BC (FPBC). Note: immediately eligible for registration is defined as being able to transfer a current membership from an applicable jurisdiction to FPBC within six (6) months of employment. Confirmation of registration/eligibility is required before an offer of employment can be made.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s licence
- Three (3) years of recent (within the last 5 years) of operational experience related to Waste surveying and submission.
- Three (3) years of operational scaling experience.
Provisos
- Willingness to work in adverse weather conditions, in remote areas, and withstand the rigours of fieldwork.

About this Position:
This position can be based in any of the following Ministry of Forests offices: Castlegar, Nelson, Nakusp or Revelstoke.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work 1 or more days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
A Criminal Record Check (CRC) will be required.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
