MANDATE

Reporting to the Managing Director and Head, A&D Advisory, within the BMO Capital Markets Investment Banking Energy Group, the “Analyst / Associate, A&D Geologist” role is responsible for completing, coordinating, and leading detailed technical geological analysis including the integration of engineering, geological and financial information, and will work on a blend of divestiture, acquisition, and merger mandates.

The successful candidate must be flexible, adaptable, and capable of working in a high pace environment where multitasking different priorities is essential. This role provides a combination of deep industry sector expertise, innovative thinking in a team-based approach and world class execution across a full suite of products to clients through an integrated Capital Markets platform using a sector ecosystem approach. Collaborates to generate creative, client-focused solutions to prospective and current clients.

Key Accountabilities

  • Play a key role in the execution and completion of technical evaluations, economic performance analysis, reservoir and asset descriptions, upside identification and other interpretation related outputs.

  • Assist in generating and presenting pitch materials and management presentations.

  • Integrate information from multiple sources to enable more efficient processes, enhanced analysis and/or process efficiencies.

  • Develop analysis and project execution strategies and make recommendations based on an understanding of business fundamentals and stakeholder needs.

  • Drive client solutions through team collaboration, technical knowledge, and economic analysis.

  • Support the execution of strategic initiatives in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Consider risk, internal controls, and compliance as part of day-to-day accountabilities and adhere to policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Geology or related Geosciences

  • P.Geo. designation with APEGA, or GIT membership in process (or eligibility to register)

Experience:

  • 2 - 6+ years of petroleum geology or geoscience experience

  • Investment banking experience considered an asset or other experience in acquisition and divesture evaluations including in business development or corporate development roles within E&P

  • Experience in creating high quality geologic interpretations and applying that workflow within an integrated engineering and/or financial team

  • Direct experience in exploiting and evaluating resource oil and gas plays or experience in heavy oil / thermal operations

  • Strong understanding of Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin stratigraphy and its clastic/carbonate depositional environments

  • Experience evaluating key reservoir characteristics, inventory depth / quality, production forecasts, operator activity and potential risks / opportunities

  • Expertise in creating mapping visualizations

  • Working knowledge of U.S. plays and basins would be an advantage

  • Fluency in industry software such as GeoSCOUT, ArcGIS, GeoGraphix, Spotfire, Enverus is viewed positively

  • Advanced experience with Microsoft Excel and Power Point

  • Experience with large data set analysis and applications to geologic analysis workflows preferred

    • Any programming experience supporting automation and selected data analytics best practices applicable to the energy industry (and specific to geoscience) is considered a strong asset, including but not limited to languages such as Python, R, Microsoft VBA, etc.

Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
