The Project Manager, Facility Management is responsible for leading and managing small to medium scale projects for facilities across CN’s network in Canada and the US. The incumbent prepares project plans and associate communication documents, in addition to executing projects from inception to completion. Moreover, the position ensures the proper completion of projects in accordance with CN’s established standards, schedules, and budget parameters. The role requires collaborating with various internal stakeholders across various CN Business Units, as well as external professionals, vendors, and contractors for project resources.

Main ResponsibilitiesProject Management

·       Meet with stakeholders to understand the scope of projects for facilities, as well as impact on CN’s network for small to medium scale projects

·       Manage and coordinate the process of planning, design development, and liaise with consultants, professionals, general contractors and suppliers

·       Ensure that project documentation throughout all project phases is consistent with project scope, budget and project schedules

·       Execute all project steps for budget management and record keeping (minutes), project contract management, project schedule, and construction compliance with applicable building codes

·       Communicate with appropriate CN stakeholders for project status reports, change orders, budget parameters, and milestones

Contract Management

·       Prepare requests for proposals and conduct all necessary meetings to facilitate hiring professionals and required services

·       Review contract plans and specifications for compliance with appropriate building codes and project requirements

·       Participate in pre-bid, pre-construction, project design, and construction meetings

Monitor and Quality Control Management

·       Monitor project expenditures, review payment of invoices, and ensure adherence to contracts

·       Ensure that work is carried out according to building code specifications and CN’s requirements

·       Prepare project status reports, evaluate performance of professionals, general contractors and construction managers through periodic inspections and direct daily supervision

·       Manage scope of work and update delivery schedules, as needed

Working Conditions

Standard working conditions in an office environment. The role requires minimal travel (25%) to plan with local resources, professionals, and contractors. 

RequirementsExperience

Project Management

·       Minimum 3 years

·       Industrial or commercial projects

·       Railway experience*

*Any experience for these above would be considered as an asset

Education/Certification/Designation

·       Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Civil Engineering

·       Project Management Institute - Project Management Professional (PMI-PMP) Certification*

*Any certification for these above would be considered as an asset

·       Knowledge of construction methodology, technology, and costs

·       Knowledge of Microsoft Office software applicable to the area of responsibility, spreadsheets and MS Project

·       Fluently bilingual both written and verbal (English, French)*
