Legal Counsel, Ethics and Compliance

Position Description:

CGI is offering a full-time, permanent opportunity for a Legal Counsel, Ethics and Compliance, to join our Corporate Legal team working from our headquarters office in downtown Montreal. The position will support the Ethics and Compliance function and initiatives, as part of the Corporate Legal team and serve as a key contact for daily case management of the ethics reporting program.

This position also be responsible for coordination of investigations with our worldwide legal team members and other partners, as well as analysis, and reporting. This role reports to the Legal Risk and Compliance Center of Expertise lead.

Your future duties and responsibilities:

As an ethics and compliance legal counsel, you will be responsible for matters in all jurisdictions worldwide where CGI operates. In such capacity, you will:
• Actively support the implementation of CGI's ethics and compliance program worldwide, and manage the implementation and maintenance of compliance processes, systems and tools
• Monitor activities relating to CGI’s corporate standards of ethics and business conduct; and respond to related inquiries and reports from CGI Partners
• Ensure thorough and prompt investigation of alleged violations of CGI’s code of ethics, laws, or regulations pertaining to CGI business and its Partners in accordance with internal policies
• Assess, prioritize and manage ethics investigations related to CGI’s Code of Conduct, internal policies and legal or regulatory obligations
• Assist in the evaluation of ethics and compliance risks, the implementation of appropriate resolution aligned with CGI’s code of ethics, and in identifying long-term solutions to improve ethical compliance
• Update and maintain compliance and governance policies to ensure they are properly communicated and respected, at all levels of employment and management
• Assist in the development of internal training and other tools designed to support understanding and compliance with CGI’s standards of ethics and business conduct
• Provide advice on compliance issues, as required
• Provide support and guidance on various internal initiatives and ethics and compliance matters impacting CGI partners in compliance with governing legislation, regulations and policies
• Monitor regulatory and legislative changes applicable to CGI
• Insure proactive and preventive initiatives in accordance with legal trends, developments and best practices
• Work in collaboration with other internal stakeholders (e.g.; Human resources, Privacy Business Partners, Security Business Partners, Internal Audit, and management teams)

• Excellent analytical skills, and the ability to convey complex information into distilled critical information and insight
• Exceptional integrity and the ability to work in a confidential and discrete manner due to access to sensitive information
• Highly professional and ability to work independently with great attention to details and accuracy
• Exceptional organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to exercise good judgment, business acumen, show initiative and be proactive
• Highly motivated with strong customer service orientation
• Excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated strong team player

QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION
• Degree in law from a recognized university
• Active member of a Bar association in at least one of the Canadian provinces
• As a legal counsel working with all jurisdictions where CGI operates, excellent English and French communication skills, both verbal and written is required

EXPERIENCE
• 3+ years of experience practicing in-house and/or at a reputable law firm in relevant field
• Prior legal experience supporting ethics and compliance functions, including experience in internal investigations, preferably in a publicly listed company with international operations
