The Montreal Community Legal Centre (Legal Aid) is looking for a legal secretary for a temporary position at the Bureau d’aide juridique Montréal, located at 600, Fullum Street in Montreal.

For over 50 years, we have been providing legal assistance to residents of Montreal and Laval. We coordinate the activities of twelve offices and employ approximately 150 lawyers and 172 staff members. Every day, our mission is to inform and assist citizens in resolving their legal issues.

Your responsibilities:

  • Prepare legal documents and procedures in collaboration with lawyers

  • Draft and process correspondence with clients and the court

  • Inform clients of relevant aspects related to their cases

  • Receive, filter, and redirect phone calls

  • Manage and update lawyers’ schedules

  • Enter and transcribe data concerning legal aid applications

  • Open, file, and archive client files

  • Administer oaths to clients, witnesses, and others

  • Replace the receptionist when needed

Your qualifications:

  • One year of relevant experience in legal secretarial work or specialized training in legal secretarial studies

  • Excellent command of French (oral and written)

  • Functional English (ability to communicate with English-speaking or allophone clients)

  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 tools (Word, Outlook, and Teams)

  • Strong organizational skills and effective priority management

  • Ability to manage stress and work in a high-volume environment

  • Strong customer service orientation

Working conditions:

  • Stable schedule of 35 hours per week

  • Annual salary ranging from $43,598 to $53,627
