General Accountabilities:

  • Assisting members of the Distribution Investment Planning team with respect to the responsibilities described and assigned tasks mentioned below:
  • Completing power system technical assessments
  • Developing power system investment scopes to provide capacity reinforcement, reliability improvement, and/or asset refurbishment
  • Identifying alternatives for the connection of loads
  • Present solutions, producing necessary documentation to substantiate recommendations.
  • Resolve problems through analysis and application of specialized technology or theory.
  • Preparation of business cases and other business documents
  • Designing and documenting processes and improvements.
  • Other duties may include: interfacing with internal customers, writing technical or non-technical reports, performing or assisting with presentations, assisting on task tracking and completion status, etc.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated strong organization and planning skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer values and Hydro One goals and objectives.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a project environment, under tight timelines, interfacing with other experts, as well as customers, field staff and the project managers/engineers.


Essential Experience and Qualifications:

  • Discipline: Electrical Engineering/Engineering Science, power system option is an asset
  • Academic level: Completion of 3rd year or higher
  • Good written and oral communication skills, knowledge of Microsoft Office, strong ability to interface and work with others, knowledge of basic power system components, and strong time management skills.
  • Must have detailed knowledge of electrical theory and principles underlying the design of electric power systems. This knowledge is normally acquired through the completion of 3 years of University engineering training.
  • Requires application of mathematical and statistical knowledge and skills to perform analytical studies on performance and design of distribution system and assets.
  • Requires knowledge of technical writing.


This Job will provide the following Professional Development opportunities:

  • Enhance technical knowledge related to power systems planning
  • Enhance development of communication skills and skills to effectively deal with technical and process issues
  • Knowledge of power industry accepted standards
  • Experience with CYME Power Engineering Software, SAP, SharePoint, Microsoft Excel and Access
