Director-Data Enablement and Governance

The Opportunity

Are you someone who is passionate about data? Global Data Governance Technology office is seeking a director, to join the team. The Director is responsible for Data Governance, Data Management, Data Policies and Solution Engineering for data governance projects! The successful candidate will manage a team consisting of professionals with diverse skills, including business and data analysts, governance domain experts, and solution engineers. While a solid understanding of technology and data platforms, cloud platforms, information management, information risk, controls, and governance is vital, this role also requires outstanding abilities in client relationship and partner management, business sense, and the capability to effectively collaborate with partners at all levels throughout the organization. Moreover, the role involves building and managing teams, as well as providing leadership!


Responsibilities

  • Define, lead, and communicate information and data management strategies and plans
  • Participate in conducting Data Governance, Data Management and Data Technology literacy programs
  • Establish a robust operating model working with partners across the organization
  • Collaborate with business owners to optimize data collection, storage, and usage to improve the value of information
  • Achieve Data Governance target critical metrics and standards by collaborating with Data Stewards, Data Owners, and respective project teams
  • Elevate data consumption standards by servicing as a Data Custodian for selected partner groups
  • Design, develop and supervise comprehensive data governance structures, data modelling and information management, defining and implementing quality standards for data assets, coordinating cross-business unit data collection and storage
  • Define and build enterprise data management policies, processes, solutions, and associated documentation to strengthen data consumption and management, per the guiding principles of Global Data Governance strategy
  • Develop capability and technology solutions around key data governance areas of data sharing, access management, data quality management, data lineage, metadata management and the data catalog, records management, information risk and controls.
  • Modernize and automate data management processes and governance activities related to key governance areas
  • Document data interfaces and movement which includes frequency of movement, how the data is transformed as it moves, and any aggregation or calculations
  • Track emerging data and analytics technologies and methods and evaluate their use within the organizational environment
  • Deliver results and demonstrate progress by leading POCs/ POTs, projects, programs, and initiatives
  • Establish perspectives on Governance considerations on usage of Data Products and Solutions
  • Lead and/or participate in vital Data Technology steering committees, champion healthy working relationship with Group Functions Data office partners
  • Coach and advise the delivery team of engineers, analysts and other technical staff on Governance, and controls requirements
  • Coach, mentor and lead a team of data analysts and data governance specialists
  • Develop KPI’s and reports to track value delivery

What we are looking for

  • A combination of education and experience in STEM disciplines preferably in engineering, math, or field related to information, data management and analytics or financial services
  • Experience in technology leadership roles, which may include, Management Consulting, Software Engineering, Technical Product Management or System Integration
  • Experience and understanding of Data Lakes, Databases, Cloud Technology or Data Management systems
  • Experience in implementing BI/Reporting systems and data integration scenarios to improve data access and control
  • Prior experience in Data Systems or Data Quality Remediation would be valuable
  • 6-8 years of technology experience in data, analytics, IT or Data Architecture
  • Knowledge on data regulations, privacy, ethical use of data, data sharing, critical data indicators, access management and data masking techniques.
  • Experience using industry recognized data management practices and frameworks such as DAMA, CMMI/ DMI/ COBIT or others
  • Certifications in Data & Analytics, Data Management, Information Technology or Project Management would be an added value
  • Knowledge and experience using Azure data services: Azure data lake, Data Factory, Purview, ML Studio, Databricks, Synapse, SQL, PowerBI, and others (or equivalent technology by other cloud or technology providers)
  • Data management technologies/concepts: Hadoop, data lake, data warehouse, relational databases, NoSQL, ETL, master data management, analytics, BI
  • Experience in the design and development of enterprise-wide systems and in implementing data governance, data integration, database development programs
  • Software development experience using multiple languages including at least some of the following: Java, Scala C, C++, C#, JavaScript, Python, R, SQL
  • Solid understanding of Agile/ DevOps/ DevSecOps methodologies and tools
  • Knowledge of information risk management and regulatory compliance related processes, controls, and tools
  • Excellent partner management, conflict resolution and negotiation skills

Salary range is expected to be between

$107,730.00 CAD - $200,070.00 CAD
