Senior Financial Analyst, Financial Reporting & Control

The role of the Finance function is to support Manulife Bank in all financial aspects. The Finance area is responsible for financial reporting, capital management, planning & expense budgeting, benchmarking, cost analysis, accounting policy and internal controls.

Reporting to the Director, External Reporting & Capital Management, the Senior Financial Analyst will be responsible for the coordination of internal controls within Bank Finance, coordination of the annual audit engagement, committee representative for Bank Finance (records retention, etc.), and quarterly reporting to Group Finance. Additionally, the incumbent will provide support for the Bank’s quarterly and annual external reporting requirements and ad hoc financial projects, including the preparation of Manulife Bank of Canada and Manulife Trust Company financial statements, notes and regulatory disclosures, capital reporting, and ad hoc projects and tasks as required. In addition, the incumbent will review accounting pronouncements and perform an impact assessment for Manulife Bank and Manulife Trust. This position offers an opportunity for the incumbent to work with individuals across the Bank, develop well-rounded banking knowledge, and financial knowledge through the preparation of financial reporting and internal control processes.

Position Responsibilities

Financial Controls

  • Coordinate internal controls for Bank Finance by assessing control gaps, developing processes, and documenting procedures.
  • Develop and coordinate SOX significant processes for the Bank, liaise with internal and external auditors for both the Bank and Manulife Trust Company, and manage annual external audit engagement.

Financial & Capital Reporting

  • Provide support for preparation of the Bank’s quarterly Board meeting materials, annual financial statements, and regulatory disclosures including Pillar 3 report, monthly/quarterly capital calculations and regulatory submissions.
  • Provide support in reviewing new accounting pronouncements, drafting accounting policy memos, and conducting impact assessments for Manulife Bank and Trust, in collaboration with the Director and Manager of External Reporting.
  • Participate in financial and capital reporting project working groups, prepare dashboards for monitoring, assist in strategic presentations for senior management and external auditors, and handle special projects as required.
  • Attend monthly/quarterly Canadian Bankers Association (CBA) committee meetings, including the Accounting Policy Specialists Group, and research and resolve financial reporting issues as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree (business, economics or finance preferred)
  • 3-5 years of experience within a finance organization
  • Accounting Designation (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA)
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS accounting
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to build relationships both among internal and industry peers to keep abreast of current issues within the industry
  • Strong teamworking and collaboration skills
  • Ability to handle multiple, complex tasks concurrently
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office applications
  • Demonstrates emerging ability to draft managerial reporting narratives.

Salary range is expected to be between

$71,925.00 CAD - $119,875.00 CAD
