Purpose

Reporting to the Lead, Tax the Tax Analyst has significant involvement in tax compliance, tax provisions, and tax audits. The Tax Analyst will also be required to conduct technical tax research relevant to tax planning projects.

Essential Duties
  • Prepare complex Canadian income and mining tax returns for the various group of legal entities in Canada
  • Obtain relevant information from the Americas Accounting team for tax provision, compliance, and audit purposes
  • Reconciliation of tax balances and review of journal entries posted
  • Prepare quarterly and year-end tax provision working papers; leverage technology by automating manual processes
  • Analyze uncertain tax positions, monitor relevant changes in tax legislation, and assess tax risk
  • Prepare multi-year profit tax calculations for Business Planning, including creating analysis to assess the recognition of deferred tax assets
  • Full oversight and accountability over tracking actual spend vs budget, including providing explanations for significant variances
  • Prepare the Tax G&A budget for inclusion in NARO Support Costs
  • Ensure supporting documentation is maintained for tax audits
  • Draft and review responses to Federal and provincial income tax audits and inquiries, including discussion of issues with the auditor
  • Manage relationships with external advisors
  • Assist in Canadian and international tax planning projects as needed

Training & Experience
  • Deep tax compliance experience, ideally with a large corporation
  • Working knowledge of SAP and BPC
  • Knowledge of Canadian Federal and Provincial taxation and International taxation
  • Understanding of tax accounting
  • Designated Accountant (CPA is preferred)
  • Self-starter, efficient, and attention to detail
  • Strong inter-personal and communication skills
  • Ability to work under time pressure and balance multiple priorities
Working Conditions
  • The position is located at the North America Regional Office in Vancouver, BC.
  • Position may require travel to sites and the Denver corporate office

The expected salary range for this role is CAD $83,400 - $120,000/year and additional 15% short term incentive target. This range is tied to the British Columbia market for jobs performed in British Columbia. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience. The salary offer will not be based on a candidate’s pay history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about pay history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont.
